The purpose of the Willow Springs Scholarship Club is to encourage WSHS students to continue their education after high school. Since 1976 WSSC has given $298,850 in scholarships to 211 WSHS graduates. Funding for the scholarships comes from membership, gifts, memorials, and business and community sponsors.

Megan Kaye Spence Scholarship Endowment


Howard Spence, a 1948 graduate of Willow Springs High School and a retired MODOT employee, donated $10,000 to the Willow Springs Scholarship Club in memory of his niece, Megan Kaye Spence.

Megan Kaye, the daughter of Linda & Larry Spence of Willow Springs, succumbed to cancer in 2001 at the age of sixteen. Other members of the family, Delbert Spence of Springfield, Mo., Linda Spence Cloud of Dadeville, Mo., and Howell County Commissioner Larry Spence also made a contribution to the fund which will extend the memorial scholarships to six years.

The gift was presented to the Willow Springs Scholarship Club on September 6, 2008 at Grimes Auditorium. WSSC Board members Jean Bray and Robert Curtis and Willow Springs High School Counselor, Sharon Petrus were at the presentation.

The Scholarship Club will use the funds to establish the Megan Kaye Spence Endowment. Funds will be withdrawn from the endowment each year to name a tuition scholarship in memory of Megan Kaye Spence. Any future donations to the Scholarship Club in Megan Kaye’s memory will be added to the endowment.
