About the Scholarship Club
• The Willow Springs Scholarship Club (WSSC) is an organization of alumni and friends of Willow Springs High School. Membership is open to anyone interested in promoting education.
• The Willow Springs Scholarship Club is organized as a nonprofit corporation in the State of Missouri and has been granted exempt status under Section 501 (c) (3) by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. Contributions to WSSC are tax deductible.
• The purpose of WSSC is to encourage Willow Springs High School graduates to continue their education after high school.
• The money for scholarships comes from memberships, gifts, memorials, and scholarship sponsors.
• In 2008 WSSC gave $27,000 in scholarships to 19 students. Six $3000 scholarships for tuition were awarded. Twelve $500 scholarships for textbooks were awarded. One 2007 WSHS graduate received a $3000 scholarship for a second year of study.
• From 1976 through 2008 WSSC has given $270,850 in scholarships to 194 students.
• In 2009 the Scholarship Club will give $28,000 in scholarships.
• Students attending an A+ school are eligible to apply for a textbook scholarship. Since the A+ program covers tuition, A+ Students attending an A+ school are not eligible for a tuition scholarship.
• The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic performance, leadership, and community activities. The scholarships can be used at any accredited college, university, or vocational school. The student can choose any field of study.
• A committee of WSSC members chooses the scholarship recipients using as blind selection process.
• For students who want to receive a scholarship it is important to do their best work in completing the scholarship application and submitting it by the deadline.
• Applications for a scholarship can be obtained from Sharon Petrus, High School Counselor.
• All Willow Springs High School graduating seniors who plan continue their education are encouraged to apply for a scholarship.
